Dussera Realisation: Life Is the Best Investment We Can Make 🏹

Dussera Realisation: Life Is the Best Investment We Can Make 🏹
Life is the biggest portfolio we will ever manage. Here’s how I decided to invest mine ੴ

Today I Realised Something Big

This morning, when I woke up, I realised something very important.
Life is nothing but an investment.

When we invest in stocks, we think of long-term profits, risks, short-term gains, and the future. The same applies to life. We don’t know if we will see tomorrow, but we can always invest in today.

We should do things that give us joy today, because life is uncertain. At the same time, we should also put some effort into tomorrow — learning, building, taking care of health, relationships, and doing good deeds.

I feel life is like a portfolio:

  • 💠A part should be enjoyed today.

  • 💠A part should be saved and invested for tomorrow.

  • 💠And a part should be invested in God and goodness, because that is the only investment that will give returns even after death.

This thought made me realise that every moment is valuable.
Enjoy today, prepare for tomorrow, and invest in forever.

After realising that life itself is an investment, I asked myself: How should I invest?

In Gurbani, there is the term Sikh. It doesn’t only mean belonging to a religion, it also means a learner — someone who is always open to learning. That struck me deeply. I feel every human should live like a learner, always ready to grow, improve, and understand.

When it comes to risk, just like in stocks, I believe we should invest only a small portion (maybe 10%) into tomorrow — the future. Because tomorrow is uncertain. The rest should be lived and invested in today.

So here is how I will invest in myself from today onward:

  • Building good habits – Habits create the foundation for both today and tomorrow.

  • Meditation and exercise – To keep the mind and body energetic, peaceful, and ready.

  • Learning something new every day – To stay alive as a student of life.

  • Understanding myself – Instead of blindly doing things, pausing to ask: Why am I here? What is my purpose?

  • Living with a bigger goal – A goal not just for myself, but something that helps humanity.

This is the portfolio of my life. Today’s joy, tomorrow’s preparation, and forever’s peace.

And since today is Dussera, I feel it’s the best reminder that just like we burn Ravan outside, we should also burn the Ravan inside us — our bad habits, laziness, ego, and negativity. Because only when we win against those, our investments in life will truly give returns.
